No Need to Visit the Payout Agent Bank to Request Deposit Insurance Compensation Anymore – Now Transfers Can Be Made Online

Prague, 16. September 2025 – Until now, when a financial institution failed, in the vast majority of cases its clients had to visit a branch of the so-called “payout agent bank” – the bank appointed by the Financial Market Guarantee System to handle the payouts – to receive their compensation. Since 1995, depositors have gone to the payout agent bank twenty times. Now, the new method will make it much simpler.

“As of January this year, 4,650,000 people already use bank identity, and this number is steadily increasing. For future payments of deposit insurance compensations, we have therefore introduced the option to request compensation online using bank identity. This will be an additional method to claim your payout for deposits – the possibility of visiting the payout agent bank in person, submitting a written request, or authorising a third party will remain available,” says Renáta Kadlecová, Executive Director of the Financial Market Guarantee System.

All individuals with permanent residence in the Czech Republic who have an active bank identity will be able to request and receive their compensation online. Clients of Komerční banka with the KB Klíč service activated will also be able to use online payout. On the specially set-up website of the payout agent bank – currently Komerční banka, a.s. – clients will, after bank identity verification, be prompted to enter the account number to which they want the compensation sent. This method can only be used to transfer compensation to accounts held in the Czech Republic,” explains Renáta Kadlecová.

Clients of the failed financial institution will be informed of all available payout methods, the payout start date, and the total amount due by registered letter sent by the Financial Market Guarantee System to the address of permanent residence, as recorded by the failed institution.

Full details of the payout process are also clearly described here.
