How much do the institutions contribute?

Contributions to the Crisis Resolution Fund are made not only by financial institutions that already contribute to the deposit insurance system (banks, branches of banks from non-EU Member States, building savings banks and cooperative credit unions), but also some investment firms. If any of these institutions get into difficulties, the acquired financial resources may then be used for e.g. issuing a guarantee, providing a loan or additional capital that may consequently resolve the institution’s financial situation and prevent its bankruptcy.

The amount of a contribution is not explicitly defined by law – it is determined by the Czech National Bank after consultation with the Guarantee System in accordance with a European Commission Regulation. The Czech National Bank has to take into account that the target level of the contribution fund is 1% of the amount of covered deposits of all the institutions, and that this level must be reached by 31st December 2024.

For 2023, the Czech National Bank has set the annual target level at CZK 4 496 410 691. The aim is to reach the amount of around CZK 36,5 billion in this Fund by 31st December 2024.
